Greyhound Pets of America?s Greater Orlando chapter currently has 55 greyhounds at their adoption facility in Longwood that need loving homes, and they need your help! These ?45 mph couch potatoes?, as they are lovingly known by greyhound adoption advocates and owners, make wonderful pets: they?re intelligent, gentle, good with children and other pets, and once their racing days are done they live for the love and affection they can receive in a great home. To support their efforts at promoting awareness about the ongoing need of greyhounds retiring from their racing careers and needing permanent homes, GPA/GO is teaming up with Boston Lobster Feast and a team of Orlando?s finest chefs to serve up the 2nd Annual Greyt Plates charity fundraiser, taking place on Tuesday, December 4th at the Holy Trinity Conference and Reception Center in Maitland. Food, refreshments, a silent and live auction, and a meet and greet with the dogs themselves are all planned for the night of the event.
SUNNY Across Central Florida host Felix Albuerne spoke to Keith Esbin from Boston Lobster Feast and Alicia Harris from Greyhound Pets of America?s Greater Orlando chapter (pictured above with our own Domino and GPA/GO special guest ?public relations specialist? Picasso) about the upcoming ?Greyt Plates? event and also about greyhound adoption and advocacy. In particular, Alicia spoke at length about the great number of misconceptions that exist among potential pet adopters regarding taking in a greyhound, as well as her chapter?s process for adoption and the possibility of fostering a grey as a step toward adoption. Keith spoke about his own experiences as a greyhound foster parent and later a greyhound owner, and his role in crafting the ?Greyt Plates? event alongside the folks from GPA/GO.
