Chinese Citizens React to North Korea?s Nuclear Test

After North Korea launched its third nuclear test this Monday, China responded with a stern reprimand to North Korea?s ambassador.

?

But Chinese leader?s reactions were tepid compared to their citizens.?

?

This Weibo user compared China?s relationship with North Korea as someone keeping a mad dog. The implication was that eventually the owner would get bit.

?

The test happened just 60 miles from the Chinese border. So far, Chinese media has claimed that the test left no environmental impact. But Chinese citizens are worried that may not be the case.?

?

[Chai Baowen, Mainland Chinese Netizen]:

"Do you know how they (the Chinese media) describe the nuclear test in North Korea? They portray it as if it were pollution-free vegetables being planted near us. That's how they described it. Their indication is that the nuclear in North Korea is safe, harmless, and stable."

?

This picture was tweeted by Chinese rights activist Hu Jia on February 12th.?

?

In a separate tweet he thanked the Japanese government for publishing the map. He also wondered why the Chinese government hadn?t. ?

?

North Korea?s nuclear program is an open defiance to what it calls the United States? hostile policies. Most people in China are not concerned North Korea would turn its weapons on its only major ally, but there is growing doubt over the Chinese regime?s ability to control the rogue state.

?

Weibo user Yongcheng Lawyer said in a post ?The nuclear test shows there is only suspicion and distrust between China and North Korea, there is no friendship so to speak of.?

?

Another netizen said, ?Those people who still think North Korea is our watchdog have IQ?s lower than dogs.??

?

Whether Chinese leaders are reconsidering their position on North Korea is unclear. But so far maintaining stability and good trade relations?have overshadowed the relationship between the two communist allies.
