See our full drought coverage here. And on Wednesday, Aug. 15, watch NBC News, CNBC, MSNBC, The Weather Channel and Telemundo for daylong, network-wide coverage of the drought. These ?super seeds? have drought-resistant traits -- they can hang on longer without water -- and they can fight pests without pesticides, according to CNBC?s Jane Wells.
Monsanto, an agricultural biotechnology company, says the new seeds have added $20 billion to farm incomes over the past decade.
But not every farmer is convinced that the new seeds are the solution to their problems. The next-generation seeds cost twice as much as conventional seeds, and not every farmer is a fan Wells reports. Many are going back to using conventional seeds.
